In Person Training Sessions
The following courses can accommodate minimum of 8 and a maximum of 25 participants.
Mental Health First Aid: Standard
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): Standard is a training that teaches you to provide initial, urgent support to someone who experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or who may be in crisis.
Participants will learn how to recognize the range of changes that may be an indicator of declining mental health, how to offer and provide support, and guide a person toward appropriate professional help.
- Signs of declining mental well-being
- Introduction to MHFA Actions
- Responding to possible challenges in providing support
- Impact of stigma on mental wellness
- Using MHFA to promote self-care
Method of Instruction
This 9-hour course is a combination of self-directed learning (Module 1: Two hours ) facilitator-Instructed learning (Modules 2 and 3: Three and a half hours each). Course participants are required to complete Module 1 before participating in Module 2 and 3 in person.
Upon course completion, registrants receive a Certificate of Completion from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Note: The Working Mind can be delivered virtually or in-person, based on your preference.
The Working Mind
The Working Mind is a powerful and dynamic course that approaches mental health as a spectrum, not just a static state. Participants learn to assess mental well-being, ranging from feeling healthy and resilient to experiencing severe symptoms of distress.
In addition to visualizing mental health across a spectrum, you’ll gain practical tools to manage stress and build resilience, empowering you to handle life’s challenges more easily and confidently. You’ll learn how to identify your stress triggers, break unhelpful patterns, and develop strategies to promote emotional balance.
Course Overview
Module 1: Mental Health and Stigma – Explore mental health concepts and the effects of stigma.
Module 2: The Mental Health Continuum – Use a specialized tool to monitor mental health and foster open discussions.
Module 3: Stress & Resilience – Delve into stress management and resilience-building strategies.
Module 4 (Managers Only): Supporting Your Team – Focus on strategies for managers to support their team’s mental well-being.
Participant Outcomes
After attending this training, you will be able to:
- Reduce mental illness stigma
- Practice stress management and coping skills
- Recognize poor mental health in yourself and others
- Shift how coworkers or employees view and discuss mental health
- Clarify mental health responsibilities to employees, managers, and/or coworkers
- Foster a more supportive work environment

Mental Health First Aid: Supporting Youth
Mental Health First Aid: Supporting Youth is an in-person training designed to help you provide initial support to a young person showing signs of declining mental well-being or in crisis. It’s designed for members of the public who have frequent contact with young people (ages 12 to 24).
This course will teach you how to:
- Recognize signs that a young person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis
- Initiate conversations that encourage a young person to talk about a mental health or substance use problem
- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
- Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis situation
- Check in with one’s own mental well-being and take action as needed
- Access local mental health resources and supports
Method of Instruction:

Creating Communities of Mental Health Allies
Creating Communities of Mental Health Allies is a two-hour interactive training that aims to explore the fundamental principles of mental health and create confident mental health allies to support those who may be struggling.
Topics Include:
- Mental health concepts and key terms
- Signs of declining mental well-being
- Introduction to the conversation guide
- Effective listening strategies
- Impact of stigma on mental wellness
- Community resources
Participant Outcomes:
- Increased awareness of signs and symptoms of common mental health problems
- Decreased stigma related to mental health
- Increased confidence in supporting individuals experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
- Increased awareness of mental health resources in their community
